The European Academy for Environmental Medicine published guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of EMF-related health problems and illnesses in the December 2015 Reviews on Environmental Health.  This has now been retracted and will be re-submitted for publication when corrections have been made.

Amendment to the Complaint filed against a school in Massachusetts.  The case, filed last year, alleges that a school has violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by failing to accommodate a pupil's disability (electromagnetic hypersensitivity).  The amendment adds a complaint of retaliation by the school.  Original Complaint.

The Vienna Medical Association have updated their poster on the use of mobile devices, December 2015 (the poster in German and English translation).  They advise that children carry mobile phones for emergencies only and that wired internet connections be used at work or in the home.

The Government of Cyprus National Committee on Environment and Children's health has produced a video calling for children to be protected from the radiation from mobile phones and Wi-Fi, in school and the home.  On it children say, "We have the right to health", "You have the ability to protect us" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H43IKNjTvRM).

218 scientists from 40 nations have submitted an appeal to the United Nations, UN member states and the World Health Organization (WHO) requesting they adopt more protective exposure guidelines for electromagnetic fields (EMF) and wireless technology in the face of increasing evidence of risk.                   Wi-Fi in schools

Recent years have seen a huge increase in the number of UK schools installing wireless computer networks (Wi-Fi, WLAN), wireless white boards, and similar devices.  Schools have been encouraged to use 'smart' and 'mobile' technologies (BECTA).  For most families there is no longer the choice of a school without Wi-Fi.

Wireless systems offer freedom to move around the school with laptops, tablets or smartphones and are easier and sometimes cheaper to install than wired networks.  Schools have invested money in the technologies and they have become a part of school culture.

However, schools, parents and staff are often unaware of the enormous number of scientific studies now published which demonstrate that mobile and wireless technologies, which emit microwave radiation, may pose a health risk, especially to children.  The science is published in scientific journals, often only available to subscribers.  The concerns of scientists and scientific studies are not often communicated to the public.  Thus schools rely upon the statements about the use of wireless technologies in schools made by Public Health England (formerly the Health Protection Agency) and the AGNIR.

This web site aims to provide more information about the science and calls from doctors and scientists for greater protection of children and staff in schools.  The hope is for this information to become more widely known, so that parents, schools and local authorities will be better equipped to fulfil their legal requirements to safeguard the health and development of children in their care.

A safe place for children     

Most children have to attend school and they rely upon adults to keep them safe.

Schools are failing to safeguard children when they place them at significantly increased risk

  • of developing cancer
  • of physical damage (e.g. to DNA or cells)
  • of damage to their development
  • of damage to their reproductive health

Wireless technologies have been associated with all of these harmful effects. 

Children deserve a safe environment to learn, play, develop and thrive. Many households now use some form of mobile or wireless technology, and this is their choice. Others have chosen not to use wireless technologies where there are wired alternatives.  In school children have no choice about their exposure.  Schools have a responsibility to provide a safe environment for all children whilst in their care.
